Computer question from JKP Constable exam, 2024 by JKSSB

Which of the following service allows a user to log in to another computer somewhere on the Internet?

Last updated Jun 24, 2026
Correct Answer: Option C — Telnet
Telnet (Telecommunication Network) is a network protocol used on the Internet or local area networks to provide a bidirectional interactive text-oriented communication facility using a virtual terminal connection. Essentially, it allows a user to "remote in" and command another computer from a different location.

Understanding the Options
Telnet: Designed specifically for remote login. It allows you to access a computer or server at a distance and execute commands as if you were sitting right in front of it.

e-mail: A service used for exchanging digital messages between people over a network. It does not allow you to control the recipient's computer.

UseNet: An early Internet-wide bulletin board system (BBS) used for posting and reading news, articles, and messages in "newsgroups."

FTP (File Transfer Protocol): A standard network protocol used solely for the transfer of computer files between a client and a server. While it connects you to a remote server, it is for moving files, not for logging in to operate the machine.
