Chronological Order & Ruling PeriodsII.  Utpala Dynasty (c. 855 – 1003 CE) Founded by Avantivarman in 855 CE, this medieval Hindu dynasty succeeded the Karkota dynasty and brought significant agricultural and cultural developments to Kashmir. I. Lohara Dynasty (1003 – 1171 CE) Established by Sangramaraja in 1003 CE following the death of his aunt, Queen Didda. This was the last major Hindu dynasty covered in Kalhana's Rajatarangini. IV. Shah Mir Dynasty (1339 – 1561 CE) Founded by Shams-ud-din Shah Mir in 1339 CE, marking the establishment of Muslim sultanate rule in Kashmir. Notable rulers included Sultan Sikandar and Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin ("Budshah"). III. Chak Dynasty (1561 – 1586 CE) Founded by Ghazi Shah Chak in 1561 CE after overthrowing the weak Shah Mir rulers. They ruled until Kashmir was annexed into the Mughal Empire by Akbar in 1586 CE.
